Hello everyone,

I have several Billy shelves in use that have developed minor dents and damage over the years due to frequent relocating and loading. In particular, the connections of the back panel and the fastening of the shelves sometimes cause me problems. Therefore, I would like to ask which repair kits or replacement parts for Billy shelves you consider useful and recommend to effectively and permanently fix such damage. Are there specific kits that work particularly well for certain types of damage, or is it often enough to just replace individual screws and dowels? Which products have you used yourselves, and how satisfied are you with them? I look forward to practical tips and experiences from you!

Hello barus,

I would like to add my experience. For Billy shelves, I regularly use three types of repair kits:

1. Classic furniture repair kits with wooden dowels, countersunk screws, and small metal brackets. These are ideal for basic repairs on joints.

2. Special replacement shelf supports, since original plastic holders often break. Metal supports are more durable and easy to install.

3. Back panel kits containing thin, pre-cut plywood panels and fixing nails. This is the most effective solution for bowed or cracked back panels.

Common mistakes I have noticed: If only screws are replaced but the dowels are damaged, the shelf won’t hold up for long. Also, it’s important to check the dowel holes and, if necessary, reinforce them with wood glue and wooden dowels.

In summary, it’s worth having a comprehensive set or combining several small but suitable kits. This way, you are well prepared for all typical repair situations.
