Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to upgrade my Ikea PAX wardrobe with new doors and have a specific question: Which of the PAX doors available at Ikea offer particularly good sound insulation?

It is important to me that noise generated inside the wardrobe—for example, from the doors slamming or from items stored inside—is minimized as much as possible.

I have read that some doors perform better than others due to material thickness or construction, but I lack detailed experience or technical data.

Does anyone have concrete experience or can recommend doors that are specifically known for effectively improving sound insulation? Or are there accessories like seals or special fittings that could be installed additionally?

The exact model name would be great, as well as any tips regarding installation or particular features related to noise reduction.

Thank you very much in advance for your advice!

Does anyone here have experience with the long-term use of seals? Do they become brittle over time, or do they hold up relatively well?

The lifespan strongly depends on the material, maintenance, and stress. Rubber or silicone seals, commonly used in Pax doors, are generally durable, resistant to aging, and maintain their elasticity for at least 5-7 years, often much longer.

To maximize the durability of the seals, keep the following in mind:
- Avoid direct contact with chemicals
- Clean regularly with mild soapy water
- Avoid constant mechanical stress from pressing or compression

In practice, it is advisable to inspect these seals every few years and replace them if necessary, since brittle seals not only fail to perform their sealing function but can also cause jamming.

I also recommend professional installation because a misaligned seal tends to wear out quickly.

I can confirm this from my own experience. I installed the seal myself back then, but unfortunately, I wasn’t precise enough – soon I started hearing noises again, and the seal was torn. Over time, I had it done professionally, and the difference was huge.

So all I can say is: investing in quality materials and installation is worth it, especially for soundproofing.
