Hello everyone,
Recently, by a fortunate coincidence, we were granted a wonderful plot of land near Füssen. It is almost 8,000sqm (about 2 acres) in size and offers an almost unobstructed 90-degree lake view, with a slight southern hillside slope. No buildings are allowed in front of, behind, or beside the property.
We don’t want to place a standard house on it, but rather build something special that is timeless and meant to last for generations. Perhaps with some inspirations from King Ludwig.. yet it should still be recognizable as a typical house from the Allgäu region.
Where can we find an imaginative architect who can create designs based on this, which a developer could then implement affordably? Are there platforms where such projects can be commissioned? Could this be presented as a project at universities of applied sciences, for example? How and where would you approach this? This is our first step.
Many greetings from Munich!

Bauexperte9 Jan 2012 11:40Hello,
At the architects’ chamber, in specialized publications, or in new development areas.
Affordable is relative; it mainly depends on the design and the materials used. Complex architecture and low cost generally don’t go together 😀
How is a tender supposed to work without a thorough discussion beforehand about the "how"? Tenders for single-family homes only make sense for interested architects if they lead to a larger project in the end; for example, public tenders.
Just ask, but I’m afraid the effort won’t justify the result; after all, you’re not looking to build another “Neuschwanstein,” right?
Kind regards

Thank you for the feedback:
I was more referring to the possibility that there may be architects who want to create a landmark building, rather than always having to focus on space-saving aspects.
Let me be more specific: How do you find someone who is eager to design a distinctive property?
(Of course, it should not fail because of their fee – it should be feasible and not cost-wise on a completely different scale.)

Bauexperte9 Jan 2012 12:31Hello,
It’s clear...
... as I described, you will find someone that way. I work here with both "artistically minded individuals" and architects who pay attention to "spatial efficiency" aspects; you will find similarly different approaches in your own field of life.
Choose a medium-sized new development area near you, go there, and I’m sure you will find an architect that suits your needs. Otherwise, as mentioned, the relevant architectural association or publications are another option to consider.
Another possibility is to visit somewhat more expensive residential neighborhoods nearby and, if you like a certain style of architecture, simply press the doorbell; the worst that can happen is a “no” 😀
Best regards
