It’s about a very simple garden shed. The roof is covered with tiles and is leaking. Now a new roof is planned:
Rafters (spacing about 60 cm (24 inches))
OSB board on the rafters
Roofing felt on the OSB board
Battens on the OSB board
Concrete roof tiles
And the shed is finished!
The person who will do this suggests OSB boards with a thickness of 12 mm (0.47 inches). That seems quite thin to me. I’m concerned that they might eventually bend under the weight of the concrete roof tiles.
What do the experts think (just gut feeling)? Is 12 mm (0.47 inches) enough, or would 15 mm (0.59 inches) or even 18 mm (0.71 inches) be better?
Thanks a lot!
Melanie
PS: Please, no suggestions (even if well intended) that the whole setup is wrong, or that clay roof tiles would be better, or anything else... I’m really only interested in opinions about the appropriate thickness of the OSB boards.
