We have received quotes for our single-family house and plan to use 36.5 cm (14 inches) bricks, specifically W08 Unipor (unfilled). The builder offered to switch to filled W08 Unipor Coriso bricks for an additional cost of about €5000.
Now I’m hearing very different opinions regarding filled vs. unfilled bricks:
- Our architect says: “Definitely go for it!”
- The builder himself says it’s wasted money unless you also install soundproof windows (currently we only have triple glazing)
- Another builder we asked strongly recommends them and said he has unfilled bricks in his own bedroom and can hear every car door being shut outside
- Friends who are knowledgeable also have varying views
According to the datasheet, the two bricks offer sound insulation of 40 dB vs. 45 dB. Does a 5 dB difference make that much of an impact? I’m actually somewhat sensitive to noise.
Can someone help me out?
