Prompted by a response in one of my other threads, I am interested in how and where you store your trash bins. Please include a photo if possible.
At the same time, I’m starting a poll to find out your opinion on whether trash bins should be visible to “outsiders” (such as pedestrians, visitors, guests, passing drivers, Google Maps ;-) etc.) or not.
Unfortunately, I can’t provide a photo yet, as we have not moved in. However, as some of you may already know, I am considering a dense hedge shaped like a spiral, inside of which the blue and yellow bins, as well as the smaller residual waste bin, would be placed. We are not using a food waste bin, since I plan to set up one or more rotating composters.

What do you mean by “should”? Either it is regulated in the zoning plan / building regulations, and then you just plan accordingly. And if it isn’t regulated, people usually don’t think about it and arrange things as it suits them practically. Whether the bins “should be visible” is then a minor issue, since you plan for yourself, not for onlookers.
In my old terraced house, the bins were next to the front door. There was no way around it, but it wasn’t attractive.
Now, as I mentioned in the other thread, we have neutral storage boxes that hide them quite well. They don’t need to be hidden because of others, but I like it that way, because I want a neat, well-kept yard and entrance area that welcomes me without showing any garbage.

clausen7710 Apr 2022 23:53Our local development plan specifies that garbage bins must not be visible from the street—not even if they are hidden in expensive metal containers. We haven’t discussed this with the landscaping contractor yet, but I’m leaning more and more towards just storing the bins in the garage.
I wish our city planners had applied the same level of care to other issues that were unfortunately overlooked in the development plan… 🙄

There are no regulations where we live. But to be honest, especially at the beginning, it’s mostly a matter of money for me. I don’t think I want to spend a lot of money on a nice shelter for my trash.
I would like something like a rhombus-shaped shed with a green roof. But for now, the bins will be parked between the house and the garage and maybe hidden with bamboo or something similar.

Huh? Why not? Sure, having a built-in enclosure looks nicer, but somehow I’m always happier not living in a new housing development 🙂 here it really doesn’t matter 🙂 The reason why, in my opinion, is that they look unattractive, and most of us try to avoid eyesores around our houses and gardens ... I wanted to understand why the placement of garbage bins is so often exempt from this. Placing bins so that others can see them (except on collection day) but you yourself cannot, seems contradictory to me.

edit: and why are there actually two threads on the same topic? :-D If you mean the thread about the snail-shaped hedge: I thought for a while about merging this and that ;-) thread, but I didn’t know how or how to add a poll afterwards.

Basically fully visible to all passing cars and pedestrians. I don’t really care whether pedestrians see my garbage bins. The poll agrees with you. 🙂

What does “allowed” mean? I didn’t mean “allowed” in the legal sense. I’m talking about an internal, personal “aesthetic compass” that permits it or not. ;-)
