Prompted by a response in one of my other threads, I am interested in how and where you store your trash bins. Please include a photo if possible.

At the same time, I’m starting a poll to find out your opinion on whether trash bins should be visible to “outsiders” (such as pedestrians, visitors, guests, passing drivers, Google Maps ;-) etc.) or not.

Unfortunately, I can’t provide a photo yet, as we have not moved in. However, as some of you may already know, I am considering a dense hedge shaped like a spiral, inside of which the blue and yellow bins, as well as the smaller residual waste bin, would be placed. We are not using a food waste bin, since I plan to set up one or more rotating composters.

To be honest, I don’t really worry about things like that. Maybe it’s because our house dates back to 1930, so some compromises are just unavoidable.

Our black bin is placed behind the entrance stair landing (the ground floor starts about 1 meter (3 feet) above ground level, with a stone foundation underneath).
The blue and green bins are somewhat overgrown near the garage, and the yellow bags are hanging in the shed.
So everything is arranged in a way that makes sense for us, pretty much regardless of how it looks to others...

Huh? Why not? Obviously, having them enclosed looks nicer, but somehow I’m always happier not living in a new housing development 🙂 here it doesn’t really matter at all 🙂

edit: And why are there actually two threads about the same topic? :-D

We don’t have any regulations regarding this. At first, we kept our bins behind the garage. But they were always in full sun there. That was especially nice for the organic waste bin in summer. So now they stand in front of the garage in the shade. Basically fully visible to passing cars and pedestrians. I don’t really mind if pedestrians see my trash bins. Everyone has trash bins, and they belong to every house.

They are located in the front garden near the main entrance (which we only use for the trash bins) behind a bamboo hedge (which actually belongs to the pond), and are therefore not visible from the house, terrace, or the largest part of the garden. They can be seen from the street, though. But I don’t mind, since I’m not designing my property for others.

The plan is to place it behind the utility room. Still close to the front door, but out of our sight. Connecting to the path should be fairly straightforward, and the distance strip serves a useful purpose 😉 If I ever find the time, I’ll also build a small shed as a favor to the neighbor.
Alternatively, there is space between the garden shed and the carport.
