Good morning everyone,

We have been dealing with a problem for some time now where water runs quietly but continuously in our toilet, even though everything seems to be turned off.
I thought it couldn’t be that difficult, so I went to the hardware store.
The first recommendation there was to replace the seal for the flush valve (also called the tank ball or flapper).

So I invested 2.90 euros and replaced it after some fiddling.
It worked for the first 2-3 flushes, but then the slow drip returned.
Then I ordered and replaced the entire flush valve, but still no improvement.

What else could it be?

One idea I have is that there might be dirt or limescale where the valve seal needs to close.
But how do you get in there and what do you use to clean it? It’s all very tight and built-in, and you can’t really see anything.
I even tried holding my GoPro action camera in there, but it didn’t help much.

I’m afraid that if I call a professional, we might end up having to renovate the entire wall or bathroom afterwards. 😉

the lever might simply be too long

That was exactly the problem for our weak flow... the plumber just shortened it by breaking off the too-long rods.

Could someone please explain what might be too long and especially where I can screw or shorten something?
I don’t want to damage the new one faster than it was ordered. 😉

And does anyone have an idea what this +/- might mean?
In the picture, a slider is marked green. I just have no idea what happens with that.

I took everything apart again. I replaced the gasket with a different new one. At the bottom of the housing, where the gasket sits in my opinion, I tried to clean it a little with a cloth.
Then it worked well 4–5 times. But then the drip returned, not as strong, but it was still there. 🙁

Our plumber cut the red and white pipe... after that, the trickle actually stopped.

Oh, those were the ones you meant.

That actually makes sense.
I screwed them in a bit further. Possibly the front cover plate was applying some pressure, causing a slight movement.

In my test, it always worked when the plate wasn’t on yet, and then water flowed again once it was in place.

At the moment, it looks good.

Many thanks. Maybe that was the issue. 😎
