We are planning to build a new house. From my work experience, I am really impressed with vinyl flooring (we will also have underfloor heating). So the decision is already made for the living and sleeping areas. Until now, I thought tiles would be best for the kitchen and hallway. Or should we also use vinyl there? What are your experiences?

So the floor (glued planks without an underlayment) cost us €25 (about $27) plus the installation work and materials.

There are various qualities available, and both tiles and vinyl come at different price points.

However, you also need to consider whether a higher price automatically means better quality. Ultimately, the quality only becomes apparent after several years – it is hardly possible to assess it from a sample piece.

Correct. A higher price does not necessarily mean better quality. However, there are floor coverings that are approved for commercial construction from the start. These already have a completely different usage class.

We have flooring of the highest use class, and it has been extremely durable so far. The price alone does not say much; it is worth taking a look at the data sheets.

Are the potential emissions from vinyl in bedrooms a concern at all if you have a controlled mechanical ventilation system? What air exchange rate should the ventilation be operated at during the first two years in a new building to be on the safe side regarding indoor air pollutants? In addition to vinyl, there are also paints, chipboards, adhesives, etc.
