Hello,

who has experience with a staggered shed roof?
We are considering this because it would create nice variations in ceiling heights.

At the top, it might also be possible to set up some kind of attic space for storage, right?
Or would that be counterproductive since you would lose the attractive ceiling height in the upper floor?

What do you think?

Hello Julia,
to provide an answer, you would need to share a bit more information.
How large is the area? What is the roof pitch? Where is the offset made?
We have a standard mono-pitched roof with a 6° (6°) roof pitch. At the highest point inside, it is about 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches). Between the rafters, it is naturally a bit higher. We use this space as storage for rarely used items (spare tiles, suitcases, etc.).

Hello Jochen,
do I understand you correctly that there is significantly less space at the top compared to the attic of a gable or hip roof house? I thought that part could be extended upwards enough to create a considerably larger area. The development plan permits one-and-a-half stories.

Hello Julia,
that depends on your individual planning. For us, there are 2 full stories, with a standard lean-to roof on top that has a relatively low pitch.

In the photo, a two-story house can be seen, if you disregard the barely visible extension.

Storage space with a staggered shed roof is no different than with a gable roof – it depends on the knee wall height and roof pitch.
