Hello!

For a single-family house, is a structural calculation by a structural engineer required, or is a detailed design with the corresponding calculations sufficient? Some say a structural analysis is absolutely necessary, while others say it’s not needed for a single-family house.

Can you clarify this? Thanks!

Of course, you need structural engineering!

In some federal states, even a structural engineer for verification is required... or did they want to abolish this requirement for single-family homes?

That’s correct, in Hesse the building authority requires a certification of structural stability from a qualified person authorized to provide such verification according to NBVO.

I seem to vaguely remember that something changed in Bavaria—similar to Hesse. I’m sure there is no longer a mandatory story height, but I think there have also been some changes regarding structural engineering.

Call the responsible building authority; they can provide you with definitive information. It would be courteous if you could share any updates here afterward.

In Brandenburg, the requirement for an independent structural engineer’s approval was removed this year.
Basically, first study the _current_ building regulations of the respective federal state – for specific questions, contact the local building authority.
Binding information and phone inquiries seem somewhat contradictory to me – when in doubt, always get it in writing...
