Hello,
I want to install soundproofing on the ceiling of a granny flat/secondary apartment in our house.
1. So that less noise can be heard from below.
2. So that the people downstairs don’t notice the stomping from my kids as much.

I was planning to attach battens to the ceiling and fill the gaps with Styrofoam (3-4 cm thick (1–1.5 inches)).
Do you think this would help? Has anyone had experience with insulating a ceiling from below afterward?

It’s a concrete ceiling with a 15 cm (6 inches) build-up (screed).
Should work to some extent, right, or is this effort pointless? 😕

I would appreciate any tips 🙂

sorry, ...

... just found the request now!

It cannot be answered effectively without additional information.

For that, you need, for example, the complete structure of the floor slab, including:
Thickness of the concrete layer,
Thickness of the screed,
Bonded screed or floating screed,
Is the perimeter insulation strip installed without gaps?
Impact sound insulation yes (thickness?)/no
Type of floor covering (parquet, tiles, laminate, textile, ...)

Condition of the load-bearing walls:
Wall construction (material type and layer thicknesses from inside to outside?)

Penetrations through the floor slab:
Chimney/flue
Sanitary shafts
etc.

The ceiling finish you have in mind will not provide any real effects!
