Sounds like a sales slogan for overpriced technology. If protocols are open or devices can be flashed, or if you have other simple IR or 433 MHz receivers, you’re more flexible. My "planned controlled residential ventilation": IR remote. Shutter motor via radio, both connected through a Wi-Fi bridge to flexible systems like, for example, FHEM.

There is no need for upfront planning. Everything is and remains flexible.

Briefly off-topic: @HAL06120, which roller shutter remote system does Siewert use? By the way, I still wouldn’t trust the electrician (still RBE?) from Siewert with a smart home. :-)

Really off-topic 😉 The key when building with a general contractor is to only include the necessary services. RBE only provides the wiring for the decentralized controlled residential ventilation system and power to the roller shutter box. Anything potentially smart is probably mostly wireless. Honestly, I don’t feel the urge to make everything smart right now. That would just be a gimmick that would likely see little use. So I prefer to add smart features step by step as needed rather than installing everything from the start without really using it (which has often been the case with other things). However, at first I didn’t realize that the original poster was more focused on promoting KNX rather than gathering opinions as stated in the first post. I only noticed that through the parallel KNX thread and the responses 😉 So I’m stepping out of this discussion.

I handle it similarly but, unlike you, I use OpenHAB 2. Currently, I only use it in combination with Z-Wave, which is gaining a lot of traction. Even if it weren’t, with OpenHAB I can control almost anything available on the market… but that also applies to FHEM.

I haven’t looked into Sonoff yet, but I will probably use it as an affordable solution for switches. It will only be used where needed—no annoying cables, high reliability according to reports, and costs almost nothing…

Exactly, that’s why I’m stepping away as well. It’s going to start up with preaching again. No one in the KNX corner is interested in more practical and affordable solutions 😉

Okay, I’m curious if wireless will work for you. From my own experience as a former tenant at Siewert (semi-detached house Lili-Schultz-Weg ;-)), I can tell you that the Wi-Fi signal didn’t make it through the intermediate floor (because of reinforced concrete). I hope you plan for an access point on each floor. ;-)

Regarding the thread:

In the parallel thread, I already expressed my preference for smart home technology. Well, I’m tech-savvy and probably one of the enthusiasts. Still, I wouldn’t want to miss it anymore.

What has been implemented:
  • KNX bus system, 5-core cables to sockets, connection points, and blinds
  • KNX used for basic functions (light on/off/dimming, blinds up/down/slats)
  • Visualization and logic with Loxone, also functions as KNX-IP gateway
  • Weather station RenkForce WH2600
  • Shading logic via Loxone (controls roller shutters via KNX)
  • Automatic night lighting (dimmed light triggered by motion detectors after a certain time), outdoor lights, etc.
  • Video door system (audio to follow)
  • Automatic disabling of doorbell when away (dogs ...)
  • Disabling the circulation pump when away (whether that makes sense is debatable)
  • Storm warnings in smart home app
  • Presence detection via UniFi Wi-Fi controller
  • Temperature measurement in every room (KNX switches)
In planning:
  • Integration of controlled ventilation system & heat pump (read-only, informational via FHEM)
  • Smart metering (e.g., to detect whether washing machine or TV is on -> activation of lighting and shading scenes)
  • Voice output via network speakers
  • Control of garden lighting, robotic mower via UV in garage
  • Presence simulation
I’m sure I forgot some points. But that’s not important at this stage. Personally, I consider myself one of the enthusiasts who has gained a hobby through smart home technology. Basically, I like any automation that saves me work. Put negatively, I’m just lazy. Put positively, I use the time for the (for me) enjoyable things in life.
