Hello,

We want to install a sliding door for the pantry. I have installed a lintel, but I’m stuck with the width of the wall opening. Are there standard sizes for this? We need a narrow door plus passage with a maximum width of 1.60m (5 feet 3 inches).

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Markus

Regarding the pantry, I wouldn’t consider a 160 cm (63 inches) wide sliding door narrow at all (???). The next standard construction dimension would be 163.5 cm (64.4 inches), but that is irrelevant since there are no stock sizes available at this dimension on the market, especially not for sliding doors.

We have a 1.51 m (5 feet) opening in the shell construction.
However, we will reduce this to 1.35 m (4 feet 5 inches), as the manufacturer we prefer only produces glass up to 1.40 m (4 feet 7 inches) wide.

So:
Choose the door first, then determine the final width of the opening.

I mean a door width of 1.60m (5 feet 3 inches), including the door and the door frame. We currently have a sliding door that is 75cm (30 inches) wide. How wide should the opening be then? 70cm (28 inches)?

If the door is set in front of or behind the wall, that works. So, a structural opening of 70cm (28 inches) would leave a clear passage of 67cm (26 inches) after plastering, which means the door would overlap the opening by about two thumb widths on both sides.
