Hello,
Does anyone have experience using a shower toilet and can share their insights? Brand, complete system like the Geberit Sella, Mera, or shower toilets integrated into the toilet seat.

Since there have been over 60 posts about rimless toilets, I hope to get your support for my purchasing decision regarding shower toilets!

And then the child puts their fingers back in their mouth. Somehow, that doesn’t sound very appetizing.

Since we are talking specifically here:

Studies show that the average German toilet is orders of magnitude cleaner than the surfaces in the average German kitchen. So much for microfauna, fingers in the mouth, etc.

The kitchen towels used to wipe surfaces are particularly contaminated, spreading bacterial films across worktops. Toilet seats, by comparison, are significantly cleaner.

This is just to put into perspective the priorities in a hygiene discussion. The place where you defecate is usually cleaner than where you eat—just not obvious.

Typical Western bathrooms are optimal for personal hygiene in terms of body care, but much less so when it comes to the toilet itself. Even the commonly perceived comfort of a standard sitting toilet position goes against the body’s natural ergonomics for evacuation, which is why it requires a lot of cleaning effort.

Of course, water cleans better when used properly.

In a bidet, unlike the retractable arms of toilets that you can’t reach, you can clean very effectively, and you also wash your hands under the water spray, not inside the bowl.

I don’t think you’ve ever actually used such a toilet. Of course, you can reach the water spray arm for cleaning; if needed, you can also replace the nozzles. Moreover, the spray arms (at least on our model) automatically clean themselves after each use... so that definitely isn’t a valid argument.

Just about the priorities set in a hygiene discussion.
I have heard that too, but I think it's important to differentiate a bit, because not all germs are the same, right? I’m not sure that studies show the contamination levels in German kitchens with fecal bacteria (E. coli and others) are higher than in bathrooms... and isn’t that mainly what we’re concerned about when talking about bathroom hygiene?
For me, it’s more about disgust, which is emotional, and therefore not really addressed by objective studies.

It’s always the same.
If you don’t have KNX, KNX is rubbish.
If you don’t have a basement, basements are rubbish.
If you don’t have a shower toilet, shower toilets are rubbish.

I have a heat pump dryer and a coffee machine that both claim to clean themselves—let’s just say, since then I no longer trust devices that make that claim. And sure, you can reach the spray arm itself, but not the hole into which it retracts.
And even if there were a model that handled this aspect to my satisfaction, no washlet can fundamentally do anything better than a bidet. Except that it saves a bit of space, but it cannot be used nearly as flexibly.
Rhetorical tricks won’t help here either.

@AOLNCM: I have no idea why you assume these are shower toilets just because someone has questions about the topic/system instead of immediately saying "great, great *applause*" [emoji6] For my part, I asked out of interest and, for the reasons mentioned, can’t relate to it. But that doesn’t mean the whole system is useless or that it wouldn’t benefit its fans. At least that’s how it is for me; maybe you see it differently?
