Hello everyone,

we are planning to build a prefabricated house using timber frame construction. The interior walls are covered with drywall panels.

In the utility room, we are considering not finishing the walls by filling and wallpapering them, but rather leaving them as they are.

This room will house part of the heating system, the washing machine, and storage boxes.

Do you see any reason against this approach?

Why do you want to do that?
Plaster also always acts as a protective layer and additionally helps regulate moisture.

Technically, there’s no objection, but I wouldn’t have wanted that in my house. It always looks somewhat unfinished. I’m convinced it will annoy you later, and once all the technology is installed, it’s difficult to make up for it afterward.

In this case, it’s neither a large amount of money nor much time saved by leaving it as is. Therefore, it wouldn’t even be worth a second thought for me.

I agree with Climbee. Unfinished drywall is not attractive in the utility room either, and due to the appliances, it is difficult to change afterward. It will always look like a construction site and unfinished.

I personally wouldn’t do that. The utility room is also part of it and affects the overall feel of the house. I want to enjoy entering all rooms equally, not have one where I always think "OMG, close the door quickly" when leaving. Yes, it takes more work and costs more, but in the long run, it’s definitely the smarter choice.

I would have it plastered. Once the house is finished, every remaining "unfinished" detail becomes annoying ... and you won’t want to deal with that anymore.
