Hello everyone,
We are planning to install self-adhesive vinyl flooring ourselves in some rooms of our new build (with underfloor heating). The substrate is cement screed.
After some initial research, I’m a bit confused about how to properly prepare the substrate and whether impact sound insulation is necessary (or is it only required for click vinyl?).
My questions:
1. Do I have to apply leveling compound over the entire screed surface before installing self-adhesive vinyl?
2. If yes: what happens to the expansion joints in the screed? How should I protect them?
3. What are the consequences if I skip the leveling compound?
4. After applying the leveling compound, do I install the self-adhesive vinyl directly, or should I add impact sound insulation first?

Ok, good to know. Does it have an impact sound insulation layer integrated into the vinyl, or is it completely without? I strongly suspect it is without insulation, and @Altai might be able to confirm.

Click vinyl without an HDF backing expands a lot. Therefore, it is not suitable for large south-facing windows. No! A classic 5mm (0.2 inch) gap to the wall is enough, and it fits perfectly. No need to worry. It does expand slightly, but that’s not a problem! Manufacturers are well aware of this!

Vicky Pedia10 Mar 2020 00:10@Altai are we talking about standard click vinyl? Without knowing your house, I think it's more like 4mm (0.16 inches), or are we misunderstanding each other?
But combined with underfloor heating, it’s a great material, I agree with you!!! I had huge arguments with my ex about this versus tiles! She won’t read this, but by now I’m totally convinced. All correct!!!
