Hello everyone,

I’m from the beautiful Thuringia region, and we heat our apartment with oil. Recently, they handed out flyers from OilFox (.io) in our pedestrian zone. They also have a YouTube video—just search for OilFox.
It is a device that attaches to your oil tank and measures the oil level. When the tank is empty and the oil price is low, you can order more oil through the app. According to their website, this can save you up to 700 euros.

My question: is there anything similar already available? I haven’t found any comparable products online so far, although this one seems quite developed.

Best regards,

I’m thinking, if I save 100 euros on my order just once… the device will have already paid for itself completely.

But you’ll need to break down the calculations more precisely now

That is just as effective as magnets on fuel lines in a car...

I thought I had read a "recommendation" for magnets on electricity meters...

Well, they are just as pointless... manufacturers of electricity meters are not stupid, especially in Germany...

@nordanney what else do you expect this device to do? Connect with your smart home lighting so your house starts flashing when the oil tank runs empty? Besides, the device measures continuously, not just once a year. It has a function, and it fulfills it.

For 100 € I’ll soon be offering my neighbors to check their tanks from time to time as well.
For the company offering this service (which is still in startup phase), it’s a viable business with limited added value for customers – and if the appropriate oil suppliers appear when using the app, it’s a win-win situation for both the company and the oil providers.
