Dear Forum,
The joint between the garden path and the house is damaged in some areas (unfortunately, a few pieces came loose while cleaning with the pressure washer) and probably needs to be renewed. I have the following questions:
1. What would be the best approach (completely remove the joint or only repair the damaged sections in between)?
2. Which material should I use for the joints?
3. How should I mask the area (just simple masking tape, or is there a special material; do I also need to cover the path, or can the area simply be rinsed off afterwards)?
The joint is about 4 mm (0.16 inches) high (from bottom to top) and 10 mm (0.4 inches) deep (from the garden path to the house wall). From the previous owner’s records, I could reconstruct the following: the path was installed 20 years ago and laid on a gravel bed. For the joints between the slabs, vdw 805 paving joint mortar was used. Nothing separate is specified for the joint to the house, and it looks like it is made of the same material.
If there are different options regarding the material, it would be preferable if it were easy to work with (ideally one component rather than two) and would withstand the pressure washer for as long as possible.
I also appreciate any additional tips and advice. If you need more information, please let me know.
Thank you very much and best regards
Sebastian
