Hello,

I would like to know how steep an undeveloped plot of land is.

Is there an affordable DIY method to measure this accurately to the centimeter (inch)?

I don’t want to hire a surveyor for this; I just need a rough initial idea.

I bought a laser level for 10 euros, attached it to a rod with a flat board, and drove it into the ground. Then I fixed a strip of wood to it on which I mounted a measuring stick to walk around the property. That was sufficient for our planning.

I also tried various apps, but they didn’t help much as they were much less accurate.

Have you already tried the Geoportal Bayernatlas?
In what way? I can see the plot there, but nothing more.

You can measure distances using tools, and it also shows the elevation in meters.
It doesn’t fully match the official survey office data, but it’s not unusably off.

Oh man, learned something new again. That’s actually even easier 🙂

A 2-meter (6.6 feet) difference over 40 meters (131 feet)... that’s more of a slight slope than a real gradient 🙂

Thanks for the help

Ahem *** if you say so? Basically, the building envelope should be the relevant factor – and if it states 150, you should be more precise in your planning: The basement comes into play and, depending on orientation, offers a good but more expensive foundation compared to standard construction.

I don’t understand what you mean by that... sorry
