Hello everyone
We installed a groundwater heat pump 6 years ago. Now it has suffered a total failure. The plate heat exchanger is leaking, and presumably the compressor is affected as a result. Neighbors have also experienced issues with the same type of heating systems. Are groundwater heat pumps generally so sensitive?
Is it necessary to have a secondary heating circuit?
Have you encountered similar problems?

In a heat pump system, no water flows through the circuit; instead, a working fluid circulates in a closed loop (heat pump > groundwater > heat pump).
It would be necessary to investigate why heat exchangers and compressors fail and which components are specifically damaged. Possibly, the working fluid is incorrect, or the working fluid line is leaking or permeable to diffusion (allowing oxygen to enter, causing corrosion). It may also be that six years is a question of the component quality for the compressor's mechanical parts. As mentioned, this needs to be examined.

We are currently facing the same issue with our heat pump! It has been in operation for just over six years, and now the plate heat exchanger is leaking, apparently due to sediment buildup. It is a complete loss!
Even though we have a maintenance contract with a company that comes once a year to clean the filter and take care of minor issues, they unfortunately last visited in December 2009. Of course, when an error message appeared, we cleaned the filter ourselves occasionally, but it didn’t help. Now it feels like everyone is blaming each other and no one is taking responsibility. We will have this closed system inspected by the manufacturer, have our groundwater checked for changes, and will probably have to buy a new heating system. It’s definitely a frustrating situation. I just hope the quality of the individual parts in the new system (apparently stainless steel) will be better.
