Hello Pinkiponk, yes, I stepped back for a while because the lectures and accusations from some forum members really rubbed me the wrong way, as has unfortunately happened again here with certain people.

Especially since I know prices are currently unpredictable and materials are scarce, I can also understand the builder’s decision. My project is going quite well, fortunately still at very moderate prices. Only the complete re-roofing is breaking the budget, as everything has to be removed and roof battens now cost five times as much. But even here, a very fair solution was found for me: I made an agreement with the roofer that he will only be reimbursed by me if (and only if) I recover these costs from my previous general contractor. No idea why he agreed to that, but apparently, I can’t be as “nasty a person” as ypg. called me.

I think it’s a pity that you stepped back, also because from my perspective you are a good example of perseverance and not giving up despite very difficult circumstances, which many here benefit from. Maybe you will feel like contributing to this forum again when you have time. 🙂

Thank you for your sympathy. I have accepted the changed circumstances; in some ways they are even advantageous, and I am currently coming up with new ideas, like a roundabout with a fountain. ;-)

I cannot estimate the price development and assumed that material prices are currently falling again. But your points are also valid.

I didn’t attack you since I never mentioned or tagged you! However, you were indeed the person referred to. It’s not only me who uses certain people (here: you) as comparisons (for example, an 11ant is called the elephant brain or the thief the unlucky one). Frequent readers then have a better idea of what is meant. That particular thread doesn’t even exist anymore.
I’m not claiming to be better either, because my post (where you are named) certainly doesn’t reflect everyone’s opinion; ultimately, it’s a critical self-reflection from me, which is very subjective. Not everyone thinks that way.
The “as unpleasant as a broom” is what stuck, though. I seem to remember this was even a topic somewhere…

Material prices have indeed decreased slightly, that’s true, but they’re still far from normal levels. For our new roof, I specifically wanted wood fiber insulation boards because that’s what the inspector recommended. Sounds good, but try to get your hands on some. Building supply stores only receive limited quantities from suppliers, and those are already sold out. Waiting times are 4-6 months. Many who urgently need the material don’t even ask about the price anymore. And if they do, you might get around 40 m² (430 sq ft), but I needed 340 m² (3,660 sq ft). I spent 3 days just on the phone and finally managed to collect the material from 4 different dealers. I found one online who listed €9.60 per m² online, but their offer was €13.90 per m². When I asked why the online price was different, they said they haven’t updated it for months (it also said the product was sold out).

I really think that’s great and I’m very happy for you. I hope to see some photos soon as well.
