Hi,

we have completed the 1:100 preliminary design, and I need a structural engineer for the calculation of the approval statics, floor thickness, and roof structure.

My question: What information does the structural engineer need for the calculations, besides the 1:100 drawings of the single-family house? Do I need to specify in advance which type of bricks we plan to use for the masonry?

Thank you very much

You should ask your architect to tender all construction services to at least 3 to 5 companies. Using a cost comparison table based on a standardized bill of quantities (BOQ), the offers can then be compared item by item. This approach can also be applied when selecting specialized engineers, such as a surveyor or structural engineer.

Your architect should define the structural engineering services according to HOAI and either contact 2 to 3 additional structural engineering firms or provide you with the BOQ so that you can obtain comparative offers yourself. In principle, however, this is the responsibility of your architect, whom you are paying for this service. A preferred structural engineer can be a valid reason for your choice—or a reason to let go of familiar routines and gain new experiences.
