Haus_käufer24 Dec 2018 00:42Hello everyone,
We have a notary appointment coming up soon and will start renovating our house right after.
I roughly calculated some costs and noted down the expenses for all the materials.
I would appreciate your opinion on whether these estimates are realistic or if I’m way off.
The costs break down as follows:
List:
12 interior doors €3000
1 front door with sidelight €1000
10 windows €3000
4 radiators €800
75 sqm (807 sqft) laminate flooring €1500
Paint, plaster, molding, electrical outlets, light switches, moldings €1500
2 complete bathrooms €12000
I would be very grateful for your feedback.
Merry Christmas and enjoy the holidays 🙂

Well, this all seems a bit vague.
- Interior doors: borderline, maybe achievable with DIY store products or the most basic options without any custom features
- Front door: highly dependent on your expectations for the door; with a side panel, it might also be borderline
- Windows: depends primarily on size and features, so nothing definite can be said upfront
- Radiators: with the details of your requirements, it should be possible to get accurate quotes
- Laminate flooring: €20/m² (around $22/ft²) minus waste? Theoretically yes, but it wouldn’t be my choice
- The rest: besides the small items and two sets of moldings 😉 the plaster stands out. What do you plan to do with it? Replaster the entire house or just patch a corner?
- Bathrooms: also there, what exactly is “1x bathroom”? Judging by your shopping list, it doesn’t look like a luxury project; around two times €6,000 ($6,600) could accomplish something. Unless it’s meant to be a full renovation.

But that is really a mixed bag....

You need to be much more specific about this. Some things, like doors and windows, can range from very cheap to extremely expensive, depending on the quality and requirements. Most of the figures you mention seem too low or are not assessable at all without more detailed information. We also bought doors at about this unit price (of course, you can't expect much at that level). The cost of windows depends on their size and features, and the electrical work is really just guesswork. Personally, I wouldn’t install cheap fittings throughout a house, but of course, that is a matter of personal preference. For our laminate flooring with impact sound insulation, we paid just under €30/m2 (approximately $31/m2) and installed it ourselves. We are satisfied, but it is what it is—laminate flooring.
