Philiboy837 May 2013 19:32Hello... to become more independent in terms of electricity for a heat pump (since no one knows how long favorable heat pump tariffs will last that actually make a heat pump cost-effective), we are considering installing a photovoltaic system on the roof (but only a small system sized for daytime self-consumption, so not a fully covered roof area mainly for feeding electricity back into the grid) and to optimize it, also a small wind turbine to cover the electricity needs of a single-family house. Has anyone combined these systems before or had experience with this? This way, additional electricity would be generated especially when it’s windy but not sunny, for example in the evening or at night (of course, not every evening is windy).
Alternatively, one could combine a solar thermal system with the air-to-water heat pump, but solar electricity has become significantly cheaper to install since feed-in tariffs have dropped, so a small photovoltaic system for self-consumption is now more interesting.
