Hi.
Requirements are
I’m currently getting an overview, ordering samples, and visiting specialty stores. I’d appreciate some experience-based advice. Thanks.
Requirements are
- Country-style floorboards. Preferably XL, meaning wider and longer.
- Wood: oak
- Robust construction, whatever that means. What good is a 3mm wear layer if dents appear after the first step because the subfloor is too soft?
- Wear layer at least 3.5mm (0.14 inches), preferably more.
- Solid wood is also welcome

Density:
Spruce 0.46 g/cm3
Oak 0.67 g/cm3
For me, it makes a difference whether I have a 2.5mm (1 inch) wear layer on 11mm (0.43 inch) spruce or oak. MDF/HDF would be interesting.
Anyway. Somehow I expected to get a few manufacturers mentioned. In that respect, it was not helpful for me.

Somehow I expected to get a few manufacturers mentioned. Just search for parquet manufacturers or check shops. We can’t provide more because the manufacturer does not really matter. Except for the feeling of getting something special or for the budget, where you might pay a premium for something exceptional.
In my previous apartment, I had whitewashed oak for about 20€/m² (about $22 per sq ft). Currently, I have smoked oak for a normal price over 100€/m² (about $110 per sq ft) as a clearance item directly from the manufacturer, so significantly cheaper. Noticeable difference? None.
I'll suggest Mafi as a manufacturer, using oak as the wear layer. This should make the floor more resistant to swelling and warping. Whether there is a tactile or visual difference compared to a lower-priced floor is up to each individual to decide – for me, there is! There are certainly other manufacturers with a similar construction, but all are likely positioned in the premium price range.
