ᐅ Old Wooden Floor: Oil, Wax, or Sealant?

Hello!

I have a room in my old house that has so far only been used as a storage closet. It has a very old wooden floor. Now I plan to renovate this room to create a nice space for my daughter. The first thing that needs to be done is something with the floor. How should I proceed? Would it be better to oil or wax the floor, or perhaps even seal it?

Best regards, sennor 🙂

Hi!

So far, sealing seems to be the best solution in my case. However, I have never done this before. Do you think it’s possible to manage it without help? If the floor were oiled instead, what other disadvantages would that have? And how often would this maintenance process actually need to be carried out? 😕

Best regards,
sennor 😉

hi,

if the room where the floor is to be oiled is not heavily used, then oiling every 2 years is sufficient. however, if the floor experiences heavy use, this maintenance should be done once a year. the downside is that it needs to be repeated regularly. otherwise, I really don’t see any disadvantages...

Hello!

I’m still not sure what I will decide in the end. But first, all the stuff that has accumulated in the room over the past years needs to be removed. Then it has to be cleaned properly, and so on. I’ve heard that wooden floors can also be stained with a colored oil. Do you know anything about that? 😕

Best regards,
sennor 🙂

Hello sennor,

I have heard a bit about this oil, but I have not used it myself yet. However, I believe that before you apply this oil, you need to sand the floor anyway.
