Hello!
I have a room in my old house that has so far only been used as a storage closet. It has a very old wooden floor. Now I plan to renovate this room to create a nice space for my daughter. The first thing that needs to be done is something with the floor. How should I proceed? Would it be better to oil or wax the floor, or perhaps even seal it?
Best regards, sennor 🙂

Hello,
do you happen to know what type of wood the floor is made of? Is it untreated? Whether it is better to oil or seal the wooden floor depends on your needs and preferences. You should carefully consider what is most important to you. Maybe you can give us some more information.

If you seal the floor, the maintenance effort afterwards is much lower. When oiling or waxing, you have to repeat these processes regularly. Since the room you want to set up for your daughter will be a bedroom, you should keep in mind that you would have to move the bed or wardrobe out of the room every time.

If you want to seal the floor, first you need to remove all items from the room. Any wooden parts that may have come loose should be glued back in place. Then the floor should be thoroughly vacuumed. Next comes the sanding process. Large areas of a room are sanded with a drum sander. You start by sanding the middle of the room, then the edges. After repeated vacuuming, the primer is applied. After drying for 2–3 hours, the topcoat is applied.
