ᐅ New Single-Family Home Construction – Gas or Air Source Heat Pump + Photovoltaic System + Energy Storage?

Hello everyone,

I will be building a house in 2021/2022 and will live in it myself. It’s a 10x10 meter (33x33 feet), 1.5-story standard single-family house. The roof is a pitched roof with a 40-degree pitch, ridge direction North/South (so the roof faces East/West and can be equipped with photovoltaic panels).

Now, my question: Gas is available in the area. Which heating technology would you recommend?

Gas? Air-source heat pump + photovoltaic + battery storage? Ground-source heat pump? Or something completely different?

And who can give me advice like this without any hidden profit motives (like heating installers always pushing gas, etc.)?

Regards,
Flo

Our gas connection from the provider cost exactly €599 (about $640).
That seems unusually cheap, I think. For us, it was €2,000 (about $2,140).

Our general contractor wouldn’t have installed a Geisha either, but would have charged an extra fee equivalent to a gas connection for a standard heat pump.

Ok, currently the gas connection costs €649.

The first one maybe, the second probably.

Please stay on topic. Heating systems can be discussed separately from topics like mobility, veganism, etc.
They are not connected in any way.

That does not match my experience. They need to be regularly cleaned of ash, have a blower that makes noise and often breaks down or develops bearing damage, which makes them extremely loud.
I was generally referring to the statement: "Environmental polluter, whoever still installs a gas heating system in a new building in 2021."

From my point of view, a good idea. Please keep us updated. I'm especially interested because we chose our plot partly based on the fact that there are no heat pumps installed in the neighborhood.
These units have become so quiet that you can hardly hear them anymore. We just had one installed. We were advised not to place it near the bedroom, but it wouldn’t have bothered us at all. Much more disturbing for us is the cold airflow coming out of it.

Correct. The noise is very subtle. You can hardly hear ours from the street in front anymore. It is just under 6 meters (20 feet) away.
The building permit / planning permission specifies a radius of three meters (10 feet). Within this area, the air-to-water heat pump is only allowed to generate a certain noise level (dB).
I asked all our neighbors if they find our air-to-water heat pump "disturbing." None of them feel "bothered." 🙂

Hello everyone,

I haven’t checked the forum for a few days and my thread already has 26 pages 😱 😱 😱
A brief update: since we plan to build only next year, nothing has happened yet on my side.
We want to install photovoltaic panels (+ battery storage) + a heat pump (+ storage) + underfloor heating... Meanwhile, the bigger question is whether to build WITH or WITHOUT KfW support. Why? Around 90% of current builders in my area would not, or would not again, use KfW funding because 1. interest rates are so low, and 2. although the subsidy is nice, you only just break even on the supply temperature. But since the energy consultants here do not provide on-site construction support, the administrative effort during the already stressful building process is very high.
This is the feedback I keep hearing repeatedly.

So, I’m asking again here: what exactly do I have to do and provide to get the funding for KfW 55 EE?
- Take photos for documentation?
- Submit receipts for materials?
- Submit receipts for the completed trades (all of them or only those relevant for KfW – which are those?)
- Is a blower door test required for 55 EE?

I want to do a lot of the work myself with the help of friends, so there won’t always be invoices.
I don’t want that to cause problems regarding eligibility.

Isn’t there a detailed step-by-step guide with all requirements available on the KfW website (or elsewhere)?

Best regards,
Flo
