Hello dear forum,

we have the opportunity to build the middle house in a three-unit row house development.

The problem is that both the right and left neighbors will build their houses without basements, while we want to build with a basement.

The neighbors will start building soon, but we can only begin in autumn. Giving up the basement is not really an option for us.

The necessary underpinning of the neighboring houses will probably cost us a significant amount. Could you provide a rough estimate of the costs we should expect?

Or is there perhaps an elegant solution to address this issue?

Thank you in advance for any responses,
Hans

Hello,

of course, it is unfortunate if the neighbors do not want a basement. You definitely have to expect significant additional costs because a small excavation pit costs the same as a large one.
I really can’t understand how anyone can build a house without a basement!?
