We are currently facing the difficult choice regarding the windows.
Which type of roller shutter box system have you chosen and why?
Since we definitely want the inspection access from the inside, exterior roller shutters are already ruled out for us.
So far, we have been offered overlay systems made of plastic with insulation inside the box, which are said to be good and affordable compared to roller shutters installed directly into the masonry or overlay systems made entirely of EPS 35.
Data from a manufacturer, as an example
Overlay system made of plastic with insulation inside the box
U(sb)-value: 0.8
f(RSi)-value: 0.74
Sound insulation rating Rw: 31 dB
Overlay system made of EPS 35
U(sb)-value: 0.77
f(RSi)-value: 0.79
Sound insulation rating Rw: 47 dB
Based only on the U-value, the improvement seems absolutely negligible to me, right?
