Hello everyone,

My ceiling will be delivered and installed without any preparation for recessed lights. I have read that some suppliers pre-cut the holes and install the LED housings in advance.

How does the installation proceed in my case? Should I drill the holes myself later and use the same housings or different ones? Does anyone have affordable recommendations?

Best regards

In my view, your case is by far the more complicated one.

Why are you proceeding this way?

Basically, because we are not yet completely decided on the lighting concept. It has changed several times now because someone saw something different/nicer, and since we would do this ourselves, the effort is not too bad (as far as I can personally estimate).

Hello Blim150,
it sounds like the ceiling has already been ordered. If this cannot be changed quickly, you can only drill afterward. Electricians and structural builders should work together on this. The best solution is to drill the mounting boxes directly into the precast ceiling slab, install the conduits, and then pour the topping screed. Otherwise, the effort will be even greater. Unfortunately, there are not many alternatives left.

Hello Vicky Pedia,

Yes, that’s how I imagined it, all work before the top concrete layer. I just can’t quite picture how to install the boxes and haven’t found any reading material so far. Do I simply place the boxes on top of the openings and screw them in? Is there a sealing tape used between them or are they glued?

Please excuse my ignorance.
