Hey everyone,

I strongly suspect this topic has been discussed before, but I wasn’t able to find it.

I really like laminate flooring. That’s why I have it almost everywhere in my home. Now I was wondering if it’s possible to use it in the bathroom as well. A friend said he had seen it somewhere before, but I wasn’t quite convinced.

Are there options for this, and if so, what should I keep in mind? Even if there is material suitable for wet rooms, it probably isn’t as simple as just installing it, right?

Thanks for your answers.

Regards

Hello Musketier,

Apparently, there is special laminate for bathrooms. I just happened to find this:
Laminate is also suitable for bathrooms

I’m imagining my granddaughter flooding the bathroom because she wants to play fish. Laminate is and remains resin-impregnated paper – if it is to be at least somewhat water-resistant, in my view, a significant industrial process is required. The associated costs, in my opinion, then rather justify the use of commercial-grade laminate; by the way, it also looks very good. But then the original poster faces costs that are several times higher than for tiles 😉

Where is the point of using laminate in the bathroom then? I just don’t get it and would choose tiles without a second thought.

I recently saw a bathroom in a show home where the "main path" from the door to the sink, and from there to the shower, was tiled, while the rest of the floor was laminate. It looked really great!

Yes, a show home, but I probably would never do something like that in real life.

I once had a bathroom with high-quality PVC flooring. I really liked it (not cold, soft, no grout lines, attractive design). Still, I would probably choose tiles for every new bathroom...

Hello,
No laminate flooring in the bathroom, definitely not. It wears out quickly, especially when there are children in the house and water play happens in the bathroom. In a short time, the laminate will be ruined. Nothing beats tiles.

Even if these special laminate panels are moisture-resistant, I cannot imagine that being a long-term solution for a bathroom. Tiles are simply the right choice for bathrooms, if only because they are easier to maintain.
