Hello everyone,

I am planning to apply a loose laminate on a Kallax carcass panel, but I want to make sure I choose the right adhesive. Specifically, I am looking for an adhesive that provides strong bonding to melamine or particleboard and secures the laminate cleanly without any bubbles. Ideally, the adhesive layer should be flexible enough to withstand slight stresses caused by temperature and humidity changes without cracking or peeling.

Has anyone had experience with specific adhesives for loose laminating KALLAX shelves? Are there any recommendations regarding the type of adhesive (e.g., contact adhesive, liquid membrane, construction adhesive) or brands that work particularly well for this purpose? I am also interested in whether a certain application method (roller, brush, spatula) or surface preparation (sanding, cleaning, priming) might be necessary.

I look forward to your tips and advice!

I can understand well that the topic of adhesive for loose laminating on KALLAX can be really frustrating when you’re uncertain. I also had concerns at first because bubbling and peeling apparently happen quite often.

Question: To what extent do you want to laminate loosely? Just over the entire surface, or also on the edges?

I’m interested in that as well, because the adhesive technique changes depending on it. Do you already have more detailed plans?

Keep at it—usually the right solution is found with some patience and the right adhesive. 🙂
