Hello. I am considering whether to have separate meters for our heat pump and our photovoltaic system, as well as for the household electricity consumption.

Originally, I planned to use our system to support the heat pump and also consume a lot of solar power within the house, so only one meter. However, my electrician is now making me unsure and suggests having separate meters.

So, we have a meter.

Regardless of the photovoltaic system, the second meter with a heat energy tariff would have only been slightly cheaper. Therefore, we decided to skip it altogether.

Regarding the photovoltaic system, I would recommend using only one meter. Especially an east/west orientation is ideal for self-consumption.

Only one meter for photovoltaic systems.
The right decision.
Unless the photovoltaic system has more than 9.9 kWp (kilowatt peak) capacity, then a dedicated 100% meter from the utility is generally required specifically for the photovoltaic system.

Thank you for the feedback. Our system has exactly 9.92 to stay just under ten. What do you think about the solution with two meters, where you use the heat pump electricity tariff and simultaneously operate the heat pump with photovoltaic power? That is supposed to be partially possible already.

Yes, why not. If it is worthwhile for you.

I admit that I sometimes get confused by the possible combinations, but I believe that not every electricity provider supports the setup with two meters. It seems that the local utility companies are the ones who decide, not just the energy suppliers. At least, that’s how I understood it from our photovoltaic installer.
