ᐅ Adding Insulation to an Existing House

Hello everyone,

I have a question: if you buy an existing house and want to add insulation afterward, how does that usually work? There is the option to do it yourself or to hire professionals. Does anyone have experience with the costs involved and how the process typically goes? (Opening walls, installing insulation, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

In any case, consult a professional for advice. Then it can be determined what work can be done by yourself. I believe installing the insulation yourself should not be a problem.

Thank you very much for your replies. That’s probably how we will proceed. My husband is looking into getting advice on what he can do himself, and the rest will be handled by a professional. I think that’s a good middle ground.

Yes, I also think it’s a good compromise because it can save you quite a bit of money. I even know cases where the homeowner participates in the insulation work and the hours are credited, which are then deducted from the total cost.

Hi,

I once did this with a friend in his older house. It’s not a complicated task, and we installed the exterior wall insulation. For that, we used mineral wool. The insulation of the sloped roof areas was then handled by a professional.
