Fuchsbauer28 Oct 2019 22:20Hello everyone,
We are currently finalizing the very last details in our construction plan and are facing a challenge regarding the planned stove (or tiled stove / masonry heater). We hope you can provide some input.
According to the plan, the stove is to be installed directly adjacent to an exterior wall. Our initial idea was to make the stove accessible from the outside (through the 50 cm (20 inch) thick exterior wall). However, the builder is far from enthusiastic about this idea (keyword: thermal bridge, which may compromise long-term airtightness).
Has anyone of you implemented a cleaning door in the exterior wall? And if so, how did you do it?
Thanks and best regards from Fuchsbauer.

Our first approach would have been to make the chimney accessible from the outside (through the 50 cm (20 inches) thick exterior wall). Why should it be done like that? Which chimney sweep would be happy to clean the chimney through a 50 cm (20 inches) thick wall (if they can even reach it)? Will they even agree to do that?
In my opinion, this is a bad and impractical idea.

In my opinion, it’s a silly and impractical idea. Unfortunately, your answer is not very helpful. Could you possibly suggest how you think this situation could be handled better?
Thank you.

Yes, it’s a bad idea, but you can do it with an external stainless steel tension rod.Hello Lumpi_LE,
we are genuinely looking for a practical solution. So, if you have any advice, we would appreciate your input.
Thank you.

Your answer is unfortunately not helpful.Yes, it is. Talk to your chimney sweep. He knows the options and can tell you if he will even give his approval.By the way, don’t be surprised if there are no concrete or satisfactory answers to nonsensical questions. There is probably no one who has implemented something like that and can respond to you.
