Hello everyone, I’m facing a somewhat specific issue: I’m looking for suitable dust protection solutions for the open compartments of my IKEA KALLAX shelves. Most covers or doors from third-party suppliers either don’t fit reliably or don’t look good. It’s especially important to me that the dust protection fits well and doesn’t significantly affect the shelf’s appearance. There are simple films or thick plastic sheets that can be cut to size, but these often look makeshift and are inconvenient for frequent access to the contents. Does anyone have experience or know of suitable complete solutions specifically designed for KALLAX compartments? Thanks in advance!

For mounting plexiglass sheets without damage, I recommend using self-adhesive clamping or channel profiles specifically designed for acrylic sheets. These profiles adhere to smooth surfaces and allow for removable fastening. Alternatively, magnetic strips offer a flexible solution, provided the frames are magnetic or can be supplemented with metal backing. Please consider the load capacity and adhesive strength, as frequent removal of dust protection panels can otherwise cause unwanted material wear.

Great discussion here! 🙂 A few weeks ago, I had simple acrylic sheets cut to size and attached them with magnetic strips. It works really well, stays firmly in place, and you can easily remove the sheets when needed. I did it exactly as

Cool that the magnets are working so well! 🙂

I also briefly considered fabric curtains, but acrylic is definitely more stylish. Especially when the panels are transparent, it looks modern and clean. Simply great!

If you want an even easier option: there are framed sliding doors that can simply be hung in place. They are dustproof and do not require drilling. IKEA or Amazon often have suitable sets available.

Thanks for the tip! That sounds really interesting, especially since no drilling is required. Do you happen to know if the sliding doors are also suitable for the KALLAX depth of 39 cm (15 inches)? There are different sizes available, and I want to avoid poor fits afterward.
