Hello,
I have a question for the experts here. We are planning a new build and are currently looking for an architect. One was recommended to us, and he seems quite nice. He has already completed some work for us without a contract. Now he wants to receive a formal contract from us and brought it over last Monday.

We had some questions about it and sent them to him by email on Thursday. We also made several adjustments to the floor plans. Unfortunately, he has not responded to us yet, which is quite frustrating.
Is this normal in this industry?

Thank you very much for your help.

Well, you’re already frustrated after just a few days. Give the architect more time—your project isn’t the only one. He probably has quite a bit to handle.

Hi Sara,

you will need a lot of patience and should already prepare yourself for waiting during the house construction process. But you also have to allow enough time, especially since the weekend was in between. In my experience, it is better to take a bit longer but be more precise.

With that in mind,
all the best

Of course, you need to allow the appropriate amount of time for this. Applying pressure on the architect at this stage is not helpful at all. They are also managing several projects, and each one requires its own time.

I see it this way: the architect needs time to prepare a statement. If they are pressured, mistakes tend to slip in, which can often end up costing more.

Often, these gentlemen need to be handled with kid gloves. Clearly, he needs time to properly prepare the project. If there is conflict right from the start, it will continue later on.
