Years ago, I bought an IKEA Hemnes piece of furniture – specifically a chest of drawers – and although I have taken good care of it, it now looks somewhat worn. I would like to know how to make the IKEA Hemnes look like new again after years of use. What maintenance methods, repair techniques, or possibly special cleaning products are recommended to refresh the surface and wood texture? Are there any preventive measures that can help protect the furniture from aging faster? I appreciate any explanations and tips, as I want to preserve the piece as long as possible and avoid having to replace it.

After 5 years, I sometimes used furniture wax on my HEMNES dresser, and it works well against minor scratches.
What type of furniture wax would you recommend? Does it need to be specifically for painted surfaces?

For painted surfaces, I recommend hard wax or synthetic-based beeswax specifically designed for furniture. It is important that the wax is transparent and does not leave any visible film after polishing.

Thanks again to everyone for the helpful advice! I am now going to start working on my project.

When using sandpaper and applying touch-up paint, I will be careful and practice only on inconspicuous areas.

I’m confident that my Hemnes dresser will look much better again this way.
