We will have a drywall T-wall construction in the bathroom, where the washbasins will be installed. For budget reasons, we plan to purchase an inexpensive double washbasin made of mineral cast online. Now the question arises: how do we secure these lighter (than ceramic) basins? I assume that, due to the angle valves and drainage, we will need to install two of the common mounting frames (e.g., Geberit Duofix) within the T-wall construction. However, these usually come with threaded rods designed for ceramic basins.

I have often found that the vanity cabinets are anchored to the wall with dowels, and the basins simply rest on top. So, if I omit the threaded rods in the mounting frame, am I essentially preventing the option to later replace it with a ceramic basin?

Where is your question now?

We also installed this cheaper version with the base cabinet directly fixed to the wall using wall plugs. I only have the threaded rod version in the guest bathroom; I don’t use it because I also installed the base cabinet, which is more practical and provides more storage space.

Where is your question now?

Question 1) Is the information from online sources correct that cast mineral sinks generally rest only on the cabinet due to their light weight? For ceramic washbasins, whether with or without a vanity unit, these threaded rods from the mounting bracket are used to support the weight. I find it hard to imagine that a double washbasin (even if it is mineral cast) together with a vanity unit can be held securely with just a few anchors in a drywall partition.

Question 2) If the mineral cast countertops are not hung on those threaded rods, how can I best prepare in advance to later install a ceramic countertop? Does anyone have a setup where they have a mineral cast countertop with the threaded rods hidden directly underneath the countertop inside the vanity unit?
