Take a look at the ongoing discussions and related threads: I often notice that with similar conditions, similar discussion topics run in parallel. Therefore, you will often find answers to your questions or ideas on how other users are trying to solve certain problems in their home building projects through these discussions.

I encountered this "issue" while responding to a private message requesting a design sketch for a house on a slope. During this time (let’s say two to three days), two other users posted their designs (or their architects’) which are actively being discussed right now.

When I pointed this out to "my" user, they asked for the link. For me, this is an unnecessary question in a forum because I know from experience (also from other forums) that if you are actively asking questions, you should always keep an eye on all current topics and threads or at least read the titles, especially when you are focused on the core topic of the forum.

Of course, there are individual designs that cannot be compared with others. Still, the question may no longer arise for the person asking why the hallway is not suitable for furnishing or why the dressing room should be swapped with the bedroom. In my example of the “house on a slope,” it was about the use of the basement (possibly the suggestion to have living spaces with terrace access or to switch the functions of the ground floor and basement).

Anyway: check related threads, even if they are weeks old — they will likely contain solutions to problems you are currently facing.

Other people’s problems can help you as well! Almost all users here are in the same situation as you: by reading at least the current threads posted by others with similar interests, you will not become any less informed. Even if an issue does not affect you now, it likely will in the future — so having existing knowledge is never a disadvantage.

... but that is much more work than simply asking the question and waiting for everyone else to take care of it?!

It is simply laziness. It can’t be due to not using the search function. The likely reason is that there is so much to do that people find it too bothersome to first look around the forum. This also means having to gather their own questions from various posts. It’s easier to write about their own situation, which of course differs significantly from other cases, so they only have to read the answers to that. It doesn’t get any more convenient than that. 😉

I believe it is more a lack of experience with internet forums and the topic of house building itself. In the beginning, everything is unfamiliar and you feel uncertain. This is the case in all forums, whether it's cars, hi-fi, or houses.

Of course, you can read up a lot on this, but a professional will review it once and immediately spot the most obvious mistakes. However, if you want everything to be perfect, you need to research thoroughly and hope you don’t get lost in the details.

Certainly, you can’t find everything through the search function.
I also admit that in forums I visit regularly, I seldom use this feature. Still, I browse around the subforum that interests me and click here and there… often I find that the thread titles are far from clear. Titles like "I need help," or "House building," or "Experiences..." don’t tell me what kind of question is being discussed, but clicking on the thread usually clarifies whether the discussion might be useful to me.
When I post my own question as a user, I pass the waiting time by satisfying my curiosity about whether others have the same problem or what issues others are facing.
Fortunately, only a few users create a new thread every few weeks on the same topic, even though it is already being discussed elsewhere.

Unfortunately, with this thread I won’t reach those who make the mistake of not even browsing around. 🙁

With that said, I wish you a good start to the week, Yvonne 🙂

P.S. I don’t mind responding to parallel discussions, but some users make life harder for themselves, even though the solution is often already within reach here to read. 😉
