Hello everyone,

I want to keep it simple and ask if anyone has already looked into the topic of turf in enough detail to recommend a good and affordable supplier or online shop! My landscaping contractor is going to shape the garden in the next few days. The landscaper suggests I should consider sowing the lawn in March. However, if I feel like it, I could also lay turf in early September, right?

You’re from Franconia, aren’t you, Zaba12? Check with Gebhardt in Erlangen, the square meter costs a bit over 5 euros.

How did you find them? Did you order directly? Their turf is “just” turf without much marketing like premium turf, etc. Fürth is also an option. If it really comes from the region, then an additional 100 euros would be acceptable.

Robot mower turf? Seriously?

We and many neighbors have ordered from the affordable stores you can find on Google. Everyone is very satisfied! I wouldn’t pay more than €3 (about $3.30) including shipping.

Search for “buy sod online” and check the first three results. They all work. Sod installation isn’t rocket science. Choose the desired mix and look at the price.

Some stores act only as intermediaries. Neighbors were surprised when they paid around €6 per m² (approximately $6.60 per sq yd) to the local producer, while the same producer delivered to another neighbor for half the price. That was an online order.

Forget about using sod. It’s expensive and doesn’t work well. We did half and half. The seeded area turned out better and is also free of weeds. The sod is uneven and struggling with fungal issues because it has rained so much this year.

The important thing before seeding is to fully remove everything and, if necessary, spray once. Then everything goes well and it’s also much cheaper.

For me, never sod again.
