Hello everyone,

We have purchased a newly built condominium from a developer, and the construction is nearing completion.

We recently visited the apartment and reviewed the building specifications at the same time.
The specifications state: "floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedrooms and children's rooms," and under the section about windowsills: "no windowsills for floor-to-ceiling windows."

You can see one of these room’s windows in the attachment. As you can see, the windows do not reach all the way to the floor but have a ledge in between, on which a windowsill has now been installed (the photo is a bit older, so the windowsill on the ledge was not yet installed at that time).

For us, this contradiction is not entirely clear. Is there a standard definition of a floor-to-ceiling window? So, according to the building specifications, are these windows considered floor-to-ceiling or not?

Hello,
the windows were assigned by the architect/developer.
We bought the apartment fully finished from the developer, which means we only really have to do a final inspection at handover.
The screed seems fine, and the ceiling height also matches accordingly.

I’m not sure whether this is a “standard” construction method (and if so, whether it can be described as floor-to-ceiling windows) or if it was done this way because something was installed incorrectly. At least it’s the same in all apartments.

How much screed and other layers will be added on top?
To me, it looks like a row of bricks will remain at the bottom. Strictly speaking, I wouldn’t categorize that as floor-to-ceiling. On the other hand, we deliberately planned our windows on the upper floor with a row of bricks at the bottom to avoid awkward corners at floor level.

Yes, roughly one row of bricks.
What do you put on top of that? Some kind of window sill?

Yes, a windowsill is planned there.

There will still be screed and flooring installed... so about 20cm (8 inches)? In our case, there is only a 5cm (2 inches) high strip between the floor-to-ceiling windows and the floor.

I think the screed is already in place.

Okay, floor-to-ceiling windows were specified. But since there is no access to any balcony there, the question is what exactly bothers you about it?
