Hello,

I am planning a bungalow with only one ground floor. The attic is intended to be used just as storage space.

This is only a rough sketch for now. Maybe one of you will immediately notice something that definitely won’t work?

Thank you very much!

Best regards.

The issue with the entrance vestibule can be easily resolved by slightly moving the wall with the front door outward.

I also think the pantry is not really ideal, especially since it is relatively small.

My suggestion would be to keep the pantry niche as it is but install two tall kitchen cabinets there instead.

So, I think

- you should completely omit the entrance vestibule (more like a single-person airlock). The hallway practically gets no natural light because of the vestibule! Besides, the hallway with the existing doors already functions as a larger vestibule.
- swap the office/guest room with the utility room; if the office is used frequently, having light from the west isn’t a bad thing 🙂
Also, I would always try to separate private rooms from guest areas. So, place the guest room on one side and the bedrooms on the other. You could also move the main entrance further east, since the route from the carport to the front door, and especially from there with groceries to the kitchen, is currently quite long.
- no door from the bathroom (south) to the outside! Or is that intended to be just a window?
- the size and location of the pantry as shown is not practical. It would be better to locate the pantry all the way to the left along the west wall with direct access in the middle of the kitchen, where the stove is currently marked.

- in the lower left corner (southwest corner), I would place a covered terrace, but larger than in the drawing—at least 3 x 4 meters (10 x 13 feet). Accordingly, the living room furniture arrangement will need to change, with the seating area moved to the right against the wall, and so on.

Wow, thanks for all your tips. This is just a preliminary sketch to see if the room layout makes sense. I will reconsider the pantry arrangement, you’re right, I also didn’t like the counter placement.

It’s very important to me that the bedroom is well isolated and located away from the living room and kitchen since I work shifts.

I’ll read through everything again later calmly. Right now, I’m in the process of clearing out my "old" house; the first potential buyers are coming on Monday.

Since the hallway opens directly into the living area, I want to have an entrance vestibule, so the exterior wall will need to be extended a bit.

The hatch with stairs to the attic: from which room? The utility room?

Thanks, and have a great weekend, everyone.

Thanks, and wishing you all a great weekend.

I would still skip the vestibule (these days, with airtight doors, it’s overrated and just takes up space) and install a nice glass door or double doors leading to the living room.
The stairs would probably best be accessed from the long hallway. The utility room usually has too much equipment...

Have a great weekend as well 🙂
