ᐅ Installing floor-to-ceiling double windows with internal blinds—any experience?

Hello everyone, our floor-to-ceiling south-facing windows have external roller shutters. They work quite well to keep out the heat in summer, but we are now considering adding internal blinds. The idea is to be able to reduce sunlight during strong winter sun without making the room completely dark. Does anyone have experience with this?

Is it even possible to install blinds on the large windows when there is a roller shutter box above? Do you think mounting them inside the window frame is feasible – probably not, right? Because of the thickness of the blind slats.

What do you think about wooden blinds? I recently saw an advertisement online, and they looked really nice.

Thanks a lot and best regards

Don’t say that without first holding a sample curtain up to a window 😉 Before I clip those flimsy €13 (about $14) things onto the window that keep swinging back and forth every time you open the door, I’ll try a curtain instead. Curtains, in my opinion, are the most underrated decorative element in a house. AND they also have a practical use 🤨;)

That’s true. But there’s a balcony door next to it, so it doesn’t look good when two curtains and then the third one is missing.

As you prefer, but I would rather replace the entire roller shutters with screens than cover these nice windows with things like that...

I looked at the two photos from the original post again. I don’t mind the €13 (approximately $14) options, but I don’t think doubling up—installing both inside and outside—will look very good. That’s why I would try simple white curtains instead. Usually, a room benefits visually from some fabric and vertical lines. Plus, it helps reduce unwanted sunlight 🙂

You can’t see the roller shutters when they’re not lowered; they disappear into the shutter box.
We’ll see—maybe we’ll have someone come by to give us advice on-site here.

It’s not that simple to replace roller shutters with blinds, venetian blinds, or screens. It’s a huge job: breaking open the roller shutter box, removing the windows, moving the reveals… I’ve checked it all already, and the costs just aren’t proportional. Unfortunately.
