Hello everyone,
We are well advanced with our planning, and now we have an issue with the fence and privacy screen.
Our semi-detached house is the first on the street and has Street 1 to the left side of the property and Street 2 in front of the property.
The house is 5.5m (18 feet) away from Street 2, which is also our driveway entrance. The backyard is 3m (10 feet) away from the house behind us.
Now the question is, how high is the fence allowed to be?
0.8m (2.5 feet) is permitted, but that does not provide privacy because our garden is a private area and the living room faces the front garden area.
Are there possibly any special permits or exceptions here? We are located in Rhein-Neckar District, Baden-Württemberg.
I am very grateful for any help or advice.
Regards,
HarryBo

Thank you for your replies and your time.
I spoke with the building authority, and unfortunately, as expected, no exceptions are allowed. The fence must be 80 cm (31.5 inches) high along the two streets.
Privacy film on the patio door in the front garden is still permitted.
The only problem is the garden in front of the house.
According to the building authority, we are allowed to plant trees as privacy screens. For a 20 m by 12 m (66 ft by 39 ft) plot on two sides, that also means maintenance.
A hedge, as some of you suggested, behind the fence is the only option and looks better.
I will look for alternatives or get used to it after a few years.
It’s a pity that the hedge cannot be made of artificial plants.
Thanks again,
