All the home office professionals and people with back issues (like me) are surely familiar with the essential qualities of a good office chair.
It should definitely swivel, possibly with casters, and be very comfortable—no high-back chairs.
Of course, appearance is also important, but in this area, function—that is, ergonomic features and quality—comes first.
We will check out the usual suspects tomorrow in a specialty store, but maybe there is some helpful knowledge here.
The chair will be used several hours daily, so quality is essential.
It is for my wife; I would probably have looked at a "Stressless" chair first... I’m curious to hear your ideas and experiences.

I hadn’t really considered casters or no casters before, especially since it will be for my wife. But now it’s clear: it will HAVE casters.

During a visit to a specialist retailer, we were directed to an existing showroom of the manufacturer Dauphin here in Dresden, featuring all models, colors, and options.
Originally, we hadn’t even considered this brand, but it was ultimately important that the manufacturer is basically local in case of any issues, and we could try out all the different options on site.
We have now chosen a Dauphin Comfort XT. Although other models from this manufacturer or others might have looked nicer purely visually, this one was selected based on the required purpose, the options available in person, and the proximity to the manufacturer.
Thanks for your input. We also realized that living here in Dresden is somewhat provincial when it comes to things like this.

Regarding the appearance: I have to admit that I have spent my entire professional life working with office furniture provided by the company, naturally without testing it beforehand.
To me, all the seating options look really unattractive. However, everything is fully adjustable so that none of the “10,000” employees can complain. Everyone can sit as comfortably and ergonomically as their body requires. Therefore, I can also recommend ordering a professional chair... and it will be comfortable (and healthy) even without trying it first 🙂
