Hello everyone,

to better estimate my own work efforts in house construction, I would appreciate your approximate "benchmark values" regarding effort and duration.
Please provide an estimate of how long the following tasks might take—considering that two people are working together (skill level: "rather inexperienced"):
  • Installing click vinyl flooring over approximately 80m² (860 sq ft) on one floor?
  • Insulating between rafters in the attic (area without skylights) – the usable floor area of the attic is about 120m² (1,290 sq ft); I do not yet know the exact roof surface area of the pitched roof?
  • Sanding and painting walls (starting from plaster at Q2 level) over around 112m² (1,205 sq ft) of living space?

Thank you very much!

Vinyl can be installed in one day, and apart from a cutter, it doesn’t require any tools or experience. Additional time is needed for baseboards and door transitions.

I’m not sure about insulation between rafters.

I would estimate 5-7 days for sanding, priming, and painting. It depends on your quality requirements. After sanding, fine putty work can or should also be done.

Unrealistic. A cutter does not work with vinyl that has cork backing; you need a jigsaw. Also, one day is impossible including the baseboards.

There is no mention of cork in the question. Or did I miss something? Baseboards and transitions are done separately, I also wrote that.

Vinyl is no problem, but filling, sanding, and insulating beforehand... that takes time...

I installed the laminate flooring in our home, though I wasn’t very fast. First, I laid the impact sound insulation, taped the joints, sorted the laminate according to the wood pattern (to avoid having two identical boards next to each other), and then installed and cut the laminate with a saw. It definitely took about two days per room, although I worked no more than 8 hours per day. Painting a room is relatively quick; the taping off is much more tedious. Overall, we spent 3-4 weeks painting (including wallpapering).

Best regards,
Sabine

The self-builder is often more meticulous than the professional.

However!
You must not forget the work steps, the quantity/area, and drying times.

Painting a new build is not the same as whitewashing a rental apartment before handing it back.
Two coats of paint, possibly a primer coat, including ceilings. Heights in the stairwell require scaffolding. Acrylic/silicone work including drying times is necessary.
Filling and sanding on top, if desired.
