Hello everyone,
to better estimate my own work efforts in house construction, I would appreciate your approximate "benchmark values" regarding effort and duration.
Please provide an estimate of how long the following tasks might take—considering that two people are working together (skill level: "rather inexperienced"):
Thank you very much!

Please provide an estimate of how long the following tasks might take—considering that two people are working together (skill level: "rather inexperienced"):
- Installing click vinyl flooring over approximately 80m² (860 sq ft) on one floor?
- Insulating between rafters in the attic (area without skylights) – the usable floor area of the attic is about 120m² (1,290 sq ft); I do not yet know the exact roof surface area of the pitched roof?
- Sanding and painting walls (starting from plaster at Q2 level) over around 112m² (1,205 sq ft) of living space?
Thank you very much!

Insulation between the rafters works quite well. 2 to 3 days should be enough.
Both tasks are obviously really tough and thankless work, but you only have to do them once.
I have no knowledge about vinyl.

I installed laminate flooring in our home, and unfortunately, it took me quite a while. First, I laid the underlayment for impact sound insulation, taped the seams, sorted the laminate planks by wood pattern (to avoid having two identical boards next to each other later), and then installed and cut them with a saw. It took me about two days per room, but I never worked more than 8 hours a day. Painting a room goes relatively fast, but the taping off is much more tedious. Overall, we spent 3–4 weeks on all the painting, including wallpapering.
Best regards,
Sabine Laminate also takes a long time. Click vinyl is installed like drywall. Score and snap—it works both lengthwise and crosswise.
Even with vinyl flooring, you need to sort the pieces or at least take them from several boxes. And as mentioned, scoring works well with very few types of vinyl, except for the cheap ones from hardware stores.
You also need to make sure the pieces snap together cleanly and that the wall clearances are correct.
This all takes quite some time. 80m2 (860 sq ft) is already a significant area.

It’s always the many small additional tasks that end up taking a lot of time.
Laying vinyl flooring is still the quickest; I installed about 80 square meters (860 square feet) on my own.
From memory:
- Cleaning up: 2 hours
- Cleaning the floor: 3 hours
- Priming/applying bonding agent against dust: 2 hours
- Impact sound insulation: 4 hours
- Installation: 10 hours
- Baseboards: 5 hours
--------------------------
About 3 days if you work steadily
Insulation between joists, about 160 square meters (1,722 square feet)
We took a weekend for this with two people, working 2 x 6 hours, which went pretty quickly, provided you have a good cutting tool.
Drywall taping, sanding, and painting are in a different time range.
For me, about 300 square meters (3,230 square feet), 2 people, 2 weeks of taping and sanding (3 times), including Saturdays—I estimate that was nearly 200 hours of work.
Painting then took about 40 hours.

Sanding and painting walls (starting from gypsum Q2 finish) for about 112 m² (1206 sq ft) of living space? Three weeks for two people. The sanding is a nightmare, and the stairwell is a challenge.
@Curly described it quite well.
What’s missing is experience. You become overly cautious and have to rethink, reread, google everything multiple times.
Also keep in mind: if you’re missing something and have to make another trip to the hardware store, half a day can easily be lost again.
